Building my Survivor group

I have been building a group of Survivors to take on the Zombicide, Black Plague, Wulfsburg challenge. My first three have been Lady Faye for her +1 free Move action, Mizar for his +1 free Magic Action and Redcap Rodney for his +1 Damage: Melee.

Starting Wulfsburg Survivor group
My next addition needs to be able to deal some damage  from Range. There are not a lot of options really and I think that Genevieve is the stand out candidate. She starts with +1 Damage: Ranged and has good options for orange and red upgrades. I am liking +1 free Ranged Action and +1 to dice roll: Ranged.

Genevieve joins the party
So I feel that this has a nice balance to it and also can dish out proper damage from the start. Two of the guys have +1 damage.

Now I need to compliment these four.  I am thinking that a Search benefit would be good, maybe someone starting with a good weapon or maybe some more mobility. Born Leader has also been a great benefit in the past. There are lots of options to consider.

Of course, it would also be nice to include  one or two of the more magnificent survivor models.

Zomtober - week 3

I have promised myself not to start another model until I have finished the bulk of those that I have started so with this in mind I set about the painting table. I started with the Survivors.

At this stage I have quite a crew including a somewhat unplanned Neema. We have Chef Ramsay, Wanda, Doug, Neema, Phil, Josh and Elsa. Everyone now has faces and I have tidied up a lot of the detail. Elsa remains my favourite model although Neema, Phil and Josh are also looking good too.

Next I worked on the Zombivors for the same characters.

They are much more dramatic in their poses and all have clearly been in a rumble as they are dishevelled with torn clothing etc. I went for white on red for the eyes and added plenty of gore. Josh has a particularly 'hunted' feel to him.

I still need to get more of the Zombies to the table so I pushed myself and finished off four of the Runners.

I think it is the scale that is bothering me with these guys. They are too big and don't really feel like they belong with the other models. But I need to have some in order to have the complete set of models available.

My favourite model at the moment is the Rocker model from the Very Infected People (VIP's). This is somewhat unexpected as I didn't like him at all when he came out of the box but he has grown on me.

I debated what to do with colour schemes here and in the end kept the 'block' colour effect on all of them i.e. coat and pants the same. I just varied the t-shirt. I don't know what it is that has grabbed me about this guy. It could be the pain in his face or the placement of the hands or the coat itself maybe even the odd angle of his left leg but it just works.

And so to food. The suggestions for the final two 'hot-dog' men were: -
1. That that just off the BarBQ look by adding griddle burn marks
2. Go for the Texas Wiener look that is chilli and onions

I had to look this up and can share the following image with you.

I must say that looks kind of good. I may just have to delve into a recipe book and give it a try.

My four hot dog men do all look different which I did not really think would happen at the start. I am really happy with them and they are definitely fun. I still have a little tidying up to do and can't wait to try them in a game.

I finished the weeks work with a Fatty. The Zombicide Fatty is a great model I have enjoyed painting each one.

For this guy I went with a pink vest. I have found that adding a little white paint to my pink really improves the colour. I gave him a pair of yellow marigolds just to be a bit silly and I am loving the final look.

What a week it has been and I am very pleased with the output.

Over confidence the killer

I have recently been playing Zombicide and enjoying the experience. I have worked my way through a few of the Missions. I started with the 00 Tutorial which came good and got me used to the play sequence.

I moved on to play 07 Grindhouse. This is listed as 'easy' and helps to learn the whole noise principle. I played to a number of times and lost the first couple. However in time I learned to move the zombie horde around using 'line of sight' against the 'noise'.

I then tried 02 Y-zone. This is classed as 'medium'. I applied the lessons learned so far and successfully completed the mission a few times. It is a great learning mission as it has some big rooms which reveal loads of zombies especially if opened when the threat level has risen beyond 'blue'. Important to open big building early but frightening if you don't have the weaponry to handle them. I suffered lots of wounds but survived.

I decided to tackle 05 Big W next. The buildings are not quite as big but it is classed as 'hard'. Again success. Challenging but good to play.

I felt ready to step up and play something that included cars. A new twist. I went for 03 The 24hrs race of zombicity. It is classed as 'medium'. There was a lot to get used to. It is easier to get weapons because you can loot the vehicles. However this does not let you gain the 'loads of ammo' that I had become used to. Then you can drive the cars to mow down zombies. A really cool idea. Make sure that the survivors are not in way. It was close but I got a couple of games done with success.

And so to 04 Drive-by shooting. My downfall. The board is smaller and I figured I could handle it but no! It whipped my ass. I think I didn't make enough use of the cars but this was tough due to there being only one road. I am planning a revisit. A new plan is required.

However on the up side the painting is moving along.

I have been working on the Survivors building up the layers. They look good on the battlefield and it is easier to get into character.

The zombies are coming along as well. I do love a good blood splatter!

Obviously along way to go here, but its a start.

Survivor Phil is a cool guy. As a cop he starts with a pistol and this means that early in the game he is important.

I usually play him second or third. He backs up someone armed with the fire axe who opens doors. It is his job to clear the first room. He is a handy shooter and later in the game he has the skill 'Born Leader' which gives another action to anyone in the group who needs it. A great help.

Survivor Doug is also cool.

You want Doug to be searching as fast as possible because he has the 'matching set' attribute. This means that if he gets a pistol or similar with the 'matching set' symbol he automatically gains the second of the same weapon. He has good variety and can be used for ranged or combat. At high levels he can be truly awesome! For example - Ambidextrous allows him to wield two chainsaws at the time that is a whole lot of dice to roll and a lot of Zombies to take down!!

Be happy and enjoy the Zombicide!
