Zomtober week 2 - working progress

I have been busy on the painting table working on the Toxic Zombies. I have enjoyed the fact that the models are quite a bit different in terms of sculpt. They are much more decayed with bones showing through, lots of boils and spikes and are are posed with more awkward angles. They stand out. I still wanted to paint them differently though and used a rotting green / blue for the skin with green washes. I also placed green toxic puddles on the ground.

Beware the 'Toxic Spray' if you get too close.

Here they are lined up beside the zombies for the original box set. We have both Abombinations, both Fatties and some Walkers.

Survivor Crew Assembley

I am still working on filling the final two slots for the Survivor Crew.

There I was going through each of the characters, reading the various rules and thinking about which way I would go. There of lots of different combinations that would work and be complimentary. Maybe even some that would suit particular scenarios. Then I came across it .....

"AMBIDEXTROUS - The Survivor treats all Melee and Ranged weapons as if they had the dual symbol"

Now you just know that is going to appeal to an Ork player. My mind raced .... that could be two Chainsaws, one in each hand or or or or .......

Just think of the pain and the hurt that could be inflicted.

I really like the sound of Josh and Doug both of whom benefit from this skill in Zombivor form.

Doug will be great because he has Matching Set and also gets a Free Search which can be combined with +1 die: Ranged and then the Ambidextrous skill. So he is great at getting tooled up and Ranged is the way to go.

Josh on the other hand is Melee. He gets Slippery, +1 free Melee Action, +1 re-roll per turn and Ambidextrous.

Handfuls of dice - Joy, bliss - my crew is complete!

Zomtober 2015

Inspired by the blogging community I have joined the fun that is Zomtober 2015. This is my first ever community painting excursion and I am feeling excited and enthused. Its a great idea!

The rules
The Zomtober rules are simple. To take part you just need to paint one Zombie or Survivor (or more!) each week, in any scale you like, posting it to your blog by the Sunday (we use Sunday's as the end of each Zomtober week). So that means one or more minis each week on or before the 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th of October 2015.

For more information visit for full details.

For week 1 I had been working on the two Elsa's and the Abomination.

So by Sunday morning (The end of week 1) my painting table looked like this.

The two Elsa's and the Abomination have been decently painted.

The original Survivors have a basic paint job but need much more in the way of detail, faces, eyes, highlights etc.

The Toxic City Mall Survivors and Zombivors have been base coated and one or two have had a first coat, block colour trial.

Chef Ramsay has had a very quick bit of painting but also lacks detail, face, eyes etc.

I also have the joy of playing with the Very Infected People (VIP's) box set. There are five basic types and a few of them look really cool including - Hot Dog Man. I love him to bits. Will he be a Chilli Dog, or maybe Mustard Man? I am tickled pink by the possibilities. They are about to be base coated.

Other than that I have the two boxes of Zombies, the original box set 13 of which seen some paint with one of the Fatties having a decent paint job, lots of detail picked out etc and then the Toxic City Mall zombies, none of which have seen any paint.

My plan is to achieve a couple of things: -

1. Get some of the Survivors and their Zombivors properly painted. I have targeted Phil, Wanda and Chef Ramsay for starters

2. Increase the number of Zombies available by getting stuck into some of the VIP's

3. Finally, if I get around to it, increase the number of painted Runners available

Elsa zombivor painting

I had some fun with this. Using the new technique I felt much braver. I piled on the grey coats and then started to knock it back with the blacks. It really is very effective indeed. The model looks good on the board although it may need a little more in the way of a final black wash.

There is a lot of detail to take account of, with many tears in the catsuit, some of which I only noticed a little late and under the microscope. I love the sword and it always feels good to get the 'gore' on the model. Blood and guts - you got to love it. Hands bathed in blood, oh Yes!

I rewarded myself by finally allowing myself to paint the Abomination. I had no real plan - I just went for it. He is a proper lump and was great fun.

The idea is that he has burst out of one of those orange boiler suits and green wellington boots. I went for that dirty look with some purple washes, lumps of bone sticking out everywhere and then 'gore', lots of it. He looks good on the board and will be something for everyone to run away from - well that is unless you have a Molotov Cocktail of course.

The two girls remind me of the Victorias in Malifaux. Pity they can't team up. Ah well.
