I know, we all love a good project. In this instance the DarkTemplar sent over an inspiring picture.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6VRqe-SOh50/XX-AjUdZ6wI/AAAAAAAADWw/q3uRUjUhK1gb5ynlOq-LpLhckj6-W7frACK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_6291.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="303" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6VRqe-SOh50/XX-AjUdZ6wI/AAAAAAAADWw/q3uRUjUhK1gb5ynlOq-LpLhckj6-W7frACK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_6291.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Inspiring picture</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Needless to say this sent me scurrying into the garage for my' Ork bitz boxes'.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6J2ORbortOI/XX-A2NBQAEI/AAAAAAAADW8/bDN0cSdmQFwmiSdEnO6tT9vCIKrJZUA-gCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_6292.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6J2ORbortOI/XX-A2NBQAEI/AAAAAAAADW8/bDN0cSdmQFwmiSdEnO6tT9vCIKrJZUA-gCK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_6292.jpeg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Bits</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I just thought the idea was amazing. You can see how any Ork Kommando would think this a superb idea. I was hooked instantly. And so it was that I started to delve into the deep recesses of the 'bitz box' to find the necessary elements.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NMTlhHO1Mp8/XX-BnD7kdPI/AAAAAAAADXI/v7Q57dY-Qm0SFQvONZWxjtRtOP8EAShmACK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_6293.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NMTlhHO1Mp8/XX-BnD7kdPI/AAAAAAAADXI/v7Q57dY-Qm0SFQvONZWxjtRtOP8EAShmACK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_6293.jpeg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The start</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Before I knew it I was hacking open a barrel and making holes and generally sizing it all up. I would have to make it all look credible. The arms and head needed to be in right places to make it believable and then the legs could be assembled such that a slow shuffle was possible. The 'low to the ground' approach. It was bonkers and very exciting.<br />
<br />
Getting a good head was also an important feature. You needed to know there was an Ork in there so no helmets allowed.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BfrgMDBu_Ww/XX-CnizAAFI/AAAAAAAADXU/jMAnxYV2s3kM_m776hbIAzHQyMwuLBMQwCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_6294.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BfrgMDBu_Ww/XX-CnizAAFI/AAAAAAAADXU/jMAnxYV2s3kM_m776hbIAzHQyMwuLBMQwCK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_6294.jpg" width="180" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Head</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I chose an open mouthed head with visible eyes and got to painting. I wanted the hole at the front to be just big enough to see flesh, eye and teeth.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yNSI-1ENIiw/XX-DRhJ5oVI/AAAAAAAADXg/hfsJB1ET5mQHoG7yqQSp6U52d6G9vFsRgCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_6295.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yNSI-1ENIiw/XX-DRhJ5oVI/AAAAAAAADXg/hfsJB1ET5mQHoG7yqQSp6U52d6G9vFsRgCK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_6295.jpeg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Testing</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
He had instant personality and so I got to thinking about who this character might be. The story of Ned Kelly the famous Australian bushwhacker came to mind. Ned had a final shoot out with police in which, when they finally captured him, he was wearing a home made, bullet proof, set of armour.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CaFEUaRLVoY/XX-D3Vy-fsI/AAAAAAAADXs/ri4Ww-Uv0_QOJDw6T2nmik0rcRpsBj03wCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/images.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CaFEUaRLVoY/XX-D3Vy-fsI/AAAAAAAADXs/ri4Ww-Uv0_QOJDw6T2nmik0rcRpsBj03wCK4BGAYYCw/s400/images.jpeg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ned Kelly amour suit</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Suddenly my Kommando had an accent. He was saying 'ga day mate' a lot and I contemplated calling my new buddy Ned. But well an Ork called 'Ned'? I'm not sure.<br />
<br />
Anyway I thought to myself that any Ork of standing would insist that the barrel be painted red - everyone knows 'red ones go faster' and so I set about introducing a bit of colour.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5F7rEvB-T-c/XX-E3eqA8ZI/AAAAAAAADX4/vMf4qZUlBXcEwLn-u7orholEf_DJNvmOQCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_6302.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5F7rEvB-T-c/XX-E3eqA8ZI/AAAAAAAADX4/vMf4qZUlBXcEwLn-u7orholEf_DJNvmOQCK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_6302.jpeg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Shoota</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Choppa</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
It has been a joyful project and its one of the things about this hobby that really makes my juices flow. A mad idea that you just have to throw yourself into. He will be on a battlefield near me very soon!<br />

I had painted up some five fire warriors and a couple of gun drones using my normal method. Generally this works out as the base being PVA, apply sand before the first undercoat in black. Next is 2-3 layers from dark to light, followed by a wash, another highlight and finally some detail. I find it works for me and gets me to a playable quality.<br />
<br />
However the world has moved on, as I discovered on a recent visit to the Games Workshop.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZEq3zsilCFU/XIDnXcQYrbI/AAAAAAAADUM/YnmHtfSS_0c1VVDZuI7FFv9uRVOyS1CzwCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_4879.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZEq3zsilCFU/XIDnXcQYrbI/AAAAAAAADUM/YnmHtfSS_0c1VVDZuI7FFv9uRVOyS1CzwCK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_4879.jpeg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Colour chart</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I had good fun with the woman in charge as she explained how it all worked. Before I knew it I was a fair few quid lighter and marching back to the car to try out some of the ideas. I even downloaded the Citadel Painting App.<br />
<br />
To start textured bases - this was completely new to me. I found myself wondering what quantity to use. I had even bought a plastic applicator. This is what I went with in the end. I tried a few models including the base for the Recon Drone.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ydW6ByaIp_c/XIDoJEvKAqI/AAAAAAAADUY/jSAEQC5qao0qIqYZNnwiBQW9Hxom7i-7ACK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_4880.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ydW6ByaIp_c/XIDoJEvKAqI/AAAAAAAADUY/jSAEQC5qao0qIqYZNnwiBQW9Hxom7i-7ACK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_4880.jpeg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">New basing</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
And I waited for it to dry wondering if I had made a mess of it...<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1Xpp0WOIp2Q/XIDojem3MiI/AAAAAAAADUk/D744v1sjOJY2YMpWuijF2pAUYBYj03bCwCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_4882.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1Xpp0WOIp2Q/XIDojem3MiI/AAAAAAAADUk/D744v1sjOJY2YMpWuijF2pAUYBYj03bCwCK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_4882.jpeg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Interesting outcome</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
This wasn't quite what I was expecting but hi ho. We soldier on.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I undercoated and waited for everything to dry.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In the mean time I tried the new colours on one of my older models.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Base layer</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
I have purchased a base layer, wash and two highlights for the tan colour scheme and the blues for the face. I first applied the base colours and then followed up with the wash.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The wash</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
It all looked a bit dark but I could see how things were working. After some time I went on to the first high light. I then picked out a few details here and there and it was coming along quite nicely.</div>
<div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Old and new together</td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Coming along</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
I am pleased with the progress and the desert type feel to the bases. I might try and add the odd tuft of brown grass or something. Overall though, I am quite enjoying the new painting methodology. I think they will look good on the board.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It feels good to be working on a completely new army using unfamiliar colours and methods.</div>

I even purchased a box of troops and half assembled them but then we moved on to new thing and they were left in a box and worked their way to the back of the garage......so many unfinished projects.....<br />
<br />
This Christmas we were talking about Kill Team and how it would be nice if we all started a new army/team that was the opposite of what we usually play.<br />
<br />
I am an Ork!! Tau seems like a very different concept and the plan was hatched.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qI9GUsW5te0/XHEc9B23CcI/AAAAAAAADTQ/iw07DZkntgch2a2wG4qzhxo9etXmlyblwCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_4872.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qI9GUsW5te0/XHEc9B23CcI/AAAAAAAADTQ/iw07DZkntgch2a2wG4qzhxo9etXmlyblwCK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_4872.jpeg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Its here - Tau</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I finally got around to placing an order and the postman did his thing as a result, a new project is born. I know nothing about Tau. Nothing!<br />
<br />
The box I had were Fire Warriors, what arrived in the starter kit were also Fire Warriors which was tad annoying anyway....<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Lgl0-7Eap_g/XHEdsTqjz6I/AAAAAAAADTc/Ii6qjG3T978sKKt7ndfsO5cIKztR0uUNgCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_4873.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Lgl0-7Eap_g/XHEdsTqjz6I/AAAAAAAADTc/Ii6qjG3T978sKKt7ndfsO5cIKztR0uUNgCK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_4873.jpg" width="180" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Painting</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
My first decision was colour scheme. I looked around and there were a lot of options. I hate the white and after some thought I decided to go old school yellow/brown option. I played around with one of the drones until I had something approaching what I had in mind.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2szIgnosXDY/XHEeN1OznrI/AAAAAAAADTo/Gb3afLD9zc0bBchjobhX1PB3pZXnowEGgCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_4878.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2szIgnosXDY/XHEeN1OznrI/AAAAAAAADTo/Gb3afLD9zc0bBchjobhX1PB3pZXnowEGgCK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_4878.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Troops</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I started to work on some of the Fire Warriors, the ones with the pulse rifles first and I was suddenly enjoying myself. I had a look at the basic rules for Tau and noted that there are lots of weapons and drone types so I paid a visit to the local Games Workshop store for a chat. The was a youngster in the shop painting up a Tau Kill Team squad. He had just played in a competition with them so I sat back and was educated. Always good to get first hand knowledge.<br />
<br />
I purchased some Pathfinders to give me more options and I got into a discussion about paints and basing and Oh My things have moved on. I made some more purchases and now I look forward to trying out the new tips. Base coat, wash, highlight and edge is the new mantra. Lets hope it turns me into a proper painter. Where there is life - there is hope ;-)<br />

In truth she did not cause me as much problems as she did to Mike. She did entice some of my people away for a little frolic, but no-one died. Alain De La Slaugher met his end with this lady in the final game - to everyones enjoyment!<br />

I love the whole Les Dawson, hand pushing the boob thing.....<br />

We have been playing board games and not so much war gaming. Little painting is happening and I am pretty OK with that. But today is different!!!!<br />
<br />
This weekend though is the trip to Awdry Towers. Now you just know that this is going to be something extra special. It always is!!! The trouble that Michael goes to is unsurpassed. The models are sublime. The table a thing of joy and the detail, well the detail is just off the chart.<br />
<br />
We had been sent our homework. The game is a crossover Witchfinder and Donnybrook with a very huge element of 'Awdry'. A combination of dice and cards and planned to be utter fun based narrative type stuff. I was just bursting with excitement. I awoke a good hour before the alarm clock and was ready to leave much earlier than planned, but I had to wait on the arrival of the Dark Templar. I was struggling to contain myself. Anticipation was off the chart. We drove down to Awdry Towers (an hour), parked up and walked to the house. I glimpsed the board though the front window and Oh My God!<br />
<br />
Michael had just excelled himself. Truly.<br />
<br />
I am sure the welcome was fantastic and I hope I was not too rude as I manoeuvred to see what the day would bring - just amazing.<br />
<br />
I have taken far too many pictures and they don't do the piece of art that the table is any justice but I will share anyway.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n0H1Uk4DME0/W2c1MuFSfzI/AAAAAAAADP4/X983m1zeUIUbr7fNJ5JDbBbnwwEfujflwCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_3805.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n0H1Uk4DME0/W2c1MuFSfzI/AAAAAAAADP4/X983m1zeUIUbr7fNJ5JDbBbnwwEfujflwCK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_3805.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The board</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Michael supplied everything, the board, the models, the dice, the tea's, the food ...... everything.<br />
<br />
Basically the villagers are about to be over run by ghouls and all kinds of ungodly foulness. We are set up on the outskirts of the village with field, roads, hedges, a wheat field, river and a working windmill!! The blades actually go around.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NqAmNm6Q9RU/W2c2Wgg7t_I/AAAAAAAADQE/rQHxCWqKISsa0-phCH3cefsD5GMloZ5MQCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_3807.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NqAmNm6Q9RU/W2c2Wgg7t_I/AAAAAAAADQE/rQHxCWqKISsa0-phCH3cefsD5GMloZ5MQCK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_3807.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Windmill complete with a tied up Windy Millers daughter</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
So much to take in. A total joy to play on, but the detail ..... man oh man. My first 'jaw drop' was when I realised that there was a fox in the wheat field which actually had a rabbit in its mouth, I mean come on.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Well fed fox</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
And then there was the scare crow....<br />
<br />

<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4G1eVi-Apq8/W2c3W8CyFzI/AAAAAAAADQc/Z4zoSc2xomMKxlvB-qPrvnppISgafG5_wCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_3809.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4G1eVi-Apq8/W2c3W8CyFzI/AAAAAAAADQc/Z4zoSc2xomMKxlvB-qPrvnppISgafG5_wCK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_3809.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Scare crow</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Did you spot the rats? I mean surprises around every corner and there were tonnes more, I promise.<br />
<br />
But you gotta love this. The Witchfinder General has obviously been busy!!<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Amazing. And just for fun.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
We had a shepherd and a flock of sheep, in the background. No reason. Not part of the game. But just there to add layer of interest.<br />

We should speak of chickens. For many years now we talk of units that run away. It follows them, always. The yellow stripe, the chicken. Once a unit runs it is never forgotten. Don't care how hard they are, if they run they will be known 'ah thats the unit who ran from my grots when .....' It's a thing. So how could the master enter into the spirt of this gaming lore ? ..... I give you the yellow chicken!!!<br />

Units that become 'shaken' and run away need a token. Michael had only gone and made some chickens, yellow ones, to act as tokens. Well I just lost it. I thought that this was the funniest thing I had come across. And it was fantastic to see them in play. And when they 'rallied' it was - take that chicken away!!<br />
<br />
Look it was an amazing day. We arrived early and stayed late. We laughed and laughed because the game play just worked so well. The narrative element was key. It was chaos and it was meant to be. You thought you were doing well until your world fell a sunder. This is not competitive gaming, this is fun for the sake of fun with a top quality entourage. This is living life, this is a man putting on a gaming day that anyone on the planet would be privileged to be a part of. This, my friends, is Awdry Towers, a place to be revered, with a host that is generous and welcoming and has prepared to a level of detail that will blow your mind!<br />
<br />
I thank you Michael for a spectacular day, well done sir!!<br />

<br />
I am starting with my Leader and contemplating what direction to take.<br />
<br />
I think of him as my main support. I have given him Commanding Presence so I see him traveling with a group and shooting. I don't want him in hand to hand really.<br />
<br />
He starts with a BS of 3+<br />
<br />
A the beginning I gave him a Shotgun with salvo and scatter. I wanted him to have something with a bit of punch. The salvo rounds have a range 12" with a S4 doing D2, causing Knockback and it is Rapid Fire (1) which gives the potential for more damage.<br />
<br />
Shredder is a Template weapon causing D6 wounds but only has a S2. I see it being good in a crowd to maybe pin a few people and then use Group Activation to really cause a bit of chaos.<br />
<br />
Going forward I have been thinking about a Boltgun. The Boltgun is S4 with a range of 24". Its short range is 12", so decent, and there is a +1 modifier to Hit making it a 2+ to hit on the move. Aim gives a +1 modifier to Hit. This means that even at distance it can be a 2+ to Hit provided you stand still and make the Aim.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hvQAXBpDtco/WqESAN3jRNI/AAAAAAAADPU/MNiZjZbFuwcKF2U0WriB2PidNKAXERisQCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/Unknown-1.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hvQAXBpDtco/WqESAN3jRNI/AAAAAAAADPU/MNiZjZbFuwcKF2U0WriB2PidNKAXERisQCK4BGAYYCw/s400/Unknown-1.jpeg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Boltgun</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The main downside that I can see is the 6+ ammo check roll. There is a 1:6 chance of failing an ammo roll and then you would need to roll a 6+ to get ammo back. These are not good odds.<br />
<br />
I would need to have a decent second weapon in reserve. Maybe I should keep the Shotgun?<br />
<br />
I don't fancy giving him Heavy Weapons because it would change the play style and I have two Champions already so they should be up to that task.<br />
<br />
The Grenade launcher looks cool and could be a good second weapon, giving lots of variety options.<br />
<br />
Plasma weapons with scarce - hmm. When they run out of ammo thats it for the game. Can't be reloaded. High risk.<br />
<br />
What about a close combat weapon? In the old days the trusty Power Sword was always sought after. There is much to consider.<br />
<br />
Each character can only have 3 weapons. I wonder if grenades are considered to be a weapon? I like the idea of chucking a grenade when things are getting too close and then running away ;-)<br />
<br />
All thoughts and suggestions welcome.<br />
<br />

These are available to both the Leader and the Champions.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RnEor0Kv8bQ/WqD4FCjaHTI/AAAAAAAADO4/mVBBYStGWkQqro2teAloof9TzcBwrVo8ACK4BGAYYCw/s1600/images-1.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RnEor0Kv8bQ/WqD4FCjaHTI/AAAAAAAADO4/mVBBYStGWkQqro2teAloof9TzcBwrVo8ACK4BGAYYCw/s400/images-1.jpeg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Orlock Champion</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<b>Ballistics Expert</b> - this is a pretty cool skill. If you make an Aim action you get the opportunity to make an Int test, if passed you get a +1 modifier to the hit roll. That is significant. I have given this skill to 'Rivits', one of my Champions and in the first few games it worked out very well. Champions Int is 6+ and the Leader is 5+. A skill well worth having.<br />
<br />
<b>Connected</b> - this is a post battle skill and allows an extra Trade action. I dismiss out of hand any skill that doesn't impact on the battlefield playing.<br />
<br />
<b>Fixer</b> - another post game skill. You gain D3 x 10 credits if the character is not captured or in recovery. Dismissed again on the basis that it doesn't impact on the battlefield. Credits are good but its boring.<br />
<br />
<b>Medicae</b> - Assist a fighter who is making a Recovery test, re-roll Out of Action one time. Due, dull, dull ;-)<br />
<br />
<b>Munitioneer</b> - Re-roll ammo check. Now thats what I am talking about. It also applies to any model within 6". I have given this to 'Leveller', my champion with the Heavy Stubber. This weapon is Rapid Fire (2) which means that you roll 2 ammo dice increasing the chance of running out of ammo. This skill made a big difference in the recent games. Kept the big guy in the game. I was very happy to have it.<br />
<br />
<b>Savvy Trader</b> - Another post game skill but it does looking interesting. When making a Trade action add 1 to the result to see if the item is available and also reduce the cost by 20 credits (to a minimum of 10 credits)<br />
<br />
In summary I think that both the 'in game' skills are excellent and the Munitioneer is a top skill when using any weapon with increased ammo dice increase the chance of running out of ammo. I like the Ballistics Expert skill and it would be worth considering for the Leader if the plan is to operate at range. You have to stand still to get the best benefit though because you need to Aim. So that is a consideration. I usually move the Leader around a fair bit so to support ongoing actions. He offers more threat if the opposition sees him on the move.Bullcher Febhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00013163135492797119noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1410672305445133553.post-36741757436709093022018-03-07T03:01:00.002-08:002018-03-07T03:01:38.069-08:00Orlock Leadership SkillsFor the first game that we played I had not chosen starting skills before setting up. In order to get going I quickly chose some skills immediately before we started but I didn't have a chance to read my options fully. I have had a chance since, so this is the start of a short review.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fGuiSMR9yK8/Wp-6VOxffmI/AAAAAAAADOo/d4gnaWMd8xIXkow_PEVX2iNkOtJWOpQIQCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/images.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fGuiSMR9yK8/Wp-6VOxffmI/AAAAAAAADOo/d4gnaWMd8xIXkow_PEVX2iNkOtJWOpQIQCK4BGAYYCw/s400/images.jpeg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Orlock Leader</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<b><u>Leader</u></b><br />
<br />
I have learned that the Leader is a pretty important guy. He has 3 wounds so he can take a bit of punishment. He has Mesh armour giving a 5+ save. He has No equipment restrictions - none!<br />
With group activation he can activate 2 other models at the same time. He can take 3 weapons.<br />
<br />
Basically you need to decide to use him in combat or for shooting and then tool him up accordingly.<br />
<br />
I have decided that Shooting is the way to go.<br />
<br />
<b><u>Skills</u></b><br />
<br />
The Leader starts with a skill.<br />
Primary = Skills are Ferocity, Leadership and Savant<br />
Secondary = Shooting<br />
<br />
The Leader is the only character to have access to Leadership as his Primary skill. So what options does he have? Lets have a look: -<br />
<br />
<b>Commanding Presence</b> - for group activation add +1 model. This means a Champion can activate 2 models or the Leader can activate 3 models. Now this could be very useful and make for a very high impact turn.<br />
<br />
<b>Inspirational</b> - If a fighter within 6" fails a Cool check then make a Leadership check, if passed then so is the Cool test. Not likely to be used much I think.<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Iron Will</b> - subtract 1 from any Bottle rolls when this model in on the field and not Seriously Injured. This seems very situational and specific to me.<br />
<br />
<b>Mentor</b> - make a Leadership test for this fighter each time a fighter within 6" gains 1 XP. If passed then the fighter gains 2 XP. I like the idea of this but 6" is a very short distance. It could be a nice way to boost XP though especially in medium term.<br />
<br />
<b>Overseer</b> - A fighter within 12" can make two actions and get his ready token back. Even the ready token was used they can take 2 actions. This is an extra turn. 12" is a good distance and having an extra turn would be amazing. There are no restrictions but I assume this would be once per round or once per game otherwise you could spam it. This is well worth considering.<br />
<br />
<b>Regroup</b> - This is a Leadership test and if passed all Broken models within 6" recovers from being Broken. Again 6" is a very distance and this would be very situational.<br />
<br />
My own choice here is probably Overseer. I think that having a model take an extra 2 actions is a really big deal. I would need to be clear about how often it can be used though. Commanding Presence would run it close. The thought of being able to focus 1 + 3 characters on getting a job done seems like a great tactic.Bullcher Febhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00013163135492797119noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1410672305445133553.post-43171400564246196612018-03-05T11:31:00.001-08:002018-03-06T06:01:12.942-08:00Necromuda returned Woot Woot!Well now we have just completed our first three games of Necromunda. Wow, what a blast. It was great to get back into it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ldfNQtCtgxk/Wp2POoI3pTI/AAAAAAAADNk/W0nQf1WusewlTIDb05Un9m9ft3pqyfmCQCLcBGAs/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2018-03-05%2Bat%2B17.24.28.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="941" data-original-width="1600" height="188" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ldfNQtCtgxk/Wp2POoI3pTI/AAAAAAAADNk/W0nQf1WusewlTIDb05Un9m9ft3pqyfmCQCLcBGAs/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2018-03-05%2Bat%2B17.24.28.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So first off I had to make some changes because at least 50% of the gang needed to be Gangers. I stayed with the two champions concept but now it was more challenging, credits wise. I also decided to take Blasting Charges. They have a bit more punch and I just was not sure what the scenarios might throw at me. They have a S5 making them the most impactful thing I have. Range is really low but still at least they are there, if needed.<br />
<br />
I had to choose some starting Skills for my Leader and Champions. This was done in a hurry, but I like my choices.<br />
<br />
1. My leader, 'Nighthawk' went for Commanding Presence. This allows him to activate one more person in group activation. I have learned that this can be a cool tactic in other games. When the time is right you send in a couple of guys to put someone down and then the last one does the finishing off. It can be devastating.<br />
<br />
2. My Champion 'Leveller' has the heavy Stubber and this has Rapid Fire (2). He can be amazing but he runs the risk of running out of ammo. A big problem to be sure. To overcome this I gave him Munitioneer. It means he can re-roll ammo checks. Anything to keep him in the game and dishing damage at distance.<br />
<br />
3. My other Champion 'Rivits' only had a Autogun. Well I had no credits left so ..... He has a decent BS of 4+ so I thought I would boost this with Ballistics Expert which means that if he can pass an Int test he is +1 to hit. Now that is a pretty big deal!!<br />
<br />
The Dark Templar had been busy with the scenery. I mean seriously.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3aYGnbow5fg/Wp2SXxDIV9I/AAAAAAAADN0/pHpdbP2oKaI2eqmyQxnhTrikT8G9N5MdQCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_2812.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3aYGnbow5fg/Wp2SXxDIV9I/AAAAAAAADN0/pHpdbP2oKaI2eqmyQxnhTrikT8G9N5MdQCK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_2812.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Love it</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
This kit is from Red Beam Design and comes with magnets to hold it all together. I was seriously impressed. Really cool and very good value. I will be checking them out for sure. It was great to play on and gave the much desired height that you need in Necromunda.<br />
<br />
There are always stories and as I look back, my Juve 'Frankio' had a great game. He was involved in everything.<br />
<br />
The first game was a straight forward 'go at one another' game. The Dark Templar came steaming in and launched himself onto the platform with his leader and some support. Very intimidating. I sent 'Frankio' up to have a look see.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UUe0trGJsQo/Wp2UVl6bnJI/AAAAAAAADOA/eyQKNLB57Is1QviXNE_Srpm2d3IMAqqbACK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_2820.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UUe0trGJsQo/Wp2UVl6bnJI/AAAAAAAADOA/eyQKNLB57Is1QviXNE_Srpm2d3IMAqqbACK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_2820.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Frankio on the prowl</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
He was great. Stub gunning away. People being 'pinned'. It was just great fun. In truth he was well supported both from distance and relatively close range. Nighthawk was a beast and took out two of the opposition - DEAD. I 'bottled' early and took the victory points. Cool start.<br />
<br />
In the pub that night the story was all about 'Frankio'.<br />
<br />
The second game was a funny affair in that we started on top of one another, only 2"'s apart, and we were tasked with taking out a piece of enemy scenery, we used old fashioned gene stealers :-). We started with a small number on the table and then it was supposed to build with reinforcements.<br />
<br />
Nighthawk opened up early dishing out the damage before getting hit himself. Frankio came to the rescue, again. It was cool.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6msblr7KvD4/Wp2Wl3zXW2I/AAAAAAAADOM/6ig7S3W-gw0sXipkt0uJHNV6MNyfU9lAQCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_2822.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6msblr7KvD4/Wp2Wl3zXW2I/AAAAAAAADOM/6ig7S3W-gw0sXipkt0uJHNV6MNyfU9lAQCK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_2822.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Frankio to the rescue</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
However we both lost people in the first round and both failed bottle tests so the game was over before it started. Amazing!<br />
<br />
And so to the third game. Oh wow.<br />
<br />
The entire Goliath gang were on the assault. I had 5 sentries. The sentries were randomly moved depending on who rolled the highest dice. I mean this was mad! In the first two turn I controlled the sentries once!! I mean seriously.<br />
<br />
I was surrounded as the Goliaths crept closer and closer. Their aim was to take down a centrally positioned structure. It was starting to look really cruel at one point and then 'Frankio' got his shit together. I had control of him twice in a row and he sounded the alarm by facing down the opposition leader, go 'Frankio'.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Edb_oFGAJeI/Wp2X9E1rl6I/AAAAAAAADOY/7k5IR6cgReYVjtGkGyywnxOv83aUv0bjQCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_2825.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Edb_oFGAJeI/Wp2X9E1rl6I/AAAAAAAADOY/7k5IR6cgReYVjtGkGyywnxOv83aUv0bjQCK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_2825.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I see you!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The rest of the boys came running and what followed was carnage. I mean blood on the floor. The mother of all battles. The Goliaths did what they had come to do but paid a high price! We had our own troubles too. A great game full of emotion with ebbs and flows. I have missed Necrumunda and I glad it is back in my life.<br />
<br />
There are lessons to learn and credits to spend but this is for another day.<br />
<br />
Tonight in the pub there will be stories to be told of heroes in the field and 'Frankio' has made his name. He was first to face down the Goliaths, he was first to pin one of them, he recused Nighthawk in the second game and raised the alarm in the third. I raise a glass - to 'Frankio'!<br />
<br />

I am pleased with the progress so far. Lots of tidying up to be done and details to be picked out but they are starting to look the part.<br />
<br />
I want to have a least one piece of strong colour on each model. I feel that it makes them unique. There is plenty of options to choose from. Hair colour, bandana, arm bands ... all kinds.<br />
<br />
Next I want to get their names straight. This is always helpful and makes the game very personal.<br />
<br />
Leveller and Rivits are my two Champions. I have settled into them with ease. Leveller is on the Heavy Stubber and Rivits is standing beside him with the Autogun held to his chest.<br />
<br />
Nighthawk is my Leader at the front.<br />
<br />
The rest have been christened but I have yet to get comfortable with them.<br />
<br />
First game is on Monday and I am really looking forward to it.Bullcher Febhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00013163135492797119noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1410672305445133553.post-10725029705501173882018-02-27T03:24:00.001-08:002018-02-27T03:24:04.521-08:00Orlocks, the old and the new.I had a dig around in the garage for my old Necromunda models. Thought it would be nice to compare them. Brought all the old memories flooding back.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nZJvsGe-Shw/WpU72dMNZ8I/AAAAAAAADM8/ZyW4SZGXgKstn3XqQgdNNRuNKgDLGKwrwCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/Orloacks%2Bold.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nZJvsGe-Shw/WpU72dMNZ8I/AAAAAAAADM8/ZyW4SZGXgKstn3XqQgdNNRuNKgDLGKwrwCK4BGAYYCw/s320/Orloacks%2Bold.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My old Orlock gang</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
They were lovely models. The young sprightly Juves, grizzled Gangers, hefty Champions and well armed Leader. I had started to rebase them a few years back....yet another unfinished project. The big thing with Necromunda was WYSIWYG. What you see is what you get. The models had to have the right weapons so we were regularly swopping arms and stuff. The wee Juve in the middle at the back had just been given a Laspistol in his right hand and I had turned it sideways for some fun.<br />
<br />
They were a fun crew to play.<br />
<br />
I have just assembled the new models.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kmcrBFOpYzw/WpU83FEVAiI/AAAAAAAADNI/B-xEQ5--zxYcpjPE37cwBxOSuTlwsnNMACK4BGAYYCw/s1600/Orlocks%2B2018.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kmcrBFOpYzw/WpU83FEVAiI/AAAAAAAADNI/B-xEQ5--zxYcpjPE37cwBxOSuTlwsnNMACK4BGAYYCw/s320/Orlocks%2B2018.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">New Orlock gang - Wreaking-ball</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
They fit together quite nicely. The shoulder pads are a bit of a pain and a few of mine lifted without me noticing. Not happy about that! But I will need to assemble more at some point.<br />
<br />
All the models are the same height, weight etc. so they are less characterful. I wonder if they will bring out a Leader model in the future...? I really would have liked the guy with the Heavy Stubber to be a bit of a heavy-set monster.<br />
<br />
Both spruces are identical which seems like a missed opportunity to me.<br />
<br />
Weapons choices are very limited. I was very disappointed about that. You would think that there would be one or two decent weapons for the Leader at the very least. I would have liked a few more heads. I did not want to use the respirator heads as I have not spent credits on them yet.<br />
<br />
Bearing in mind the game is all about character I feel like someone has been very lazy here.<br />
<br />
On the up side I love the models themselves. There is lots of cool detail. I can't wait to get the paints out and spend some time with them. The bases are also nice. Here we go again.Bullcher Febhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00013163135492797119noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1410672305445133553.post-49830314171265992222018-02-25T01:12:00.000-08:002018-02-25T01:12:00.424-08:00Orlocks for Necromunda 2018Just started back into Necromunda after many, many years. I'm having a look at the Orlocks. I am putting together a 1000 credit gang and have come up with the following: -<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4linjhsu8b8/WpJ6-ePq2MI/AAAAAAAADMo/ER3uej8J3-4Jx8ri-OnVgXiU8XkirCl2gCLcBGAs/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2018-02-25%2Bat%2B08.57.07.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="943" data-original-width="1600" height="188" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4linjhsu8b8/WpJ6-ePq2MI/AAAAAAAADMo/ER3uej8J3-4Jx8ri-OnVgXiU8XkirCl2gCLcBGAs/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2018-02-25%2Bat%2B08.57.07.png" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Gang</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I decided on a gang size of 9. That is 4 Gangers and 5 others.<br />
<br />
Basic Leader with Boltgun, Autopistol and Chainsword. He should be able to look after himself and I will keep someone close to him at all times.<br />
<br />
Probably the big decision is that I have taken 2 Champions. In the past it was nice for them to start building experience early. I have given one the Heavy Stubber and just gone Autogun for the other. What do people think? Is this sound thinking?<br />
<br />
I have also taken some shotguns for the ranged Gangers and then a couple of basic close combat guys. Shotguns was just because they seem to be the thing for Orlocks. Might I be better with Autoguns?<br />
<br />
Then I have some hand to hand Juves. Basic fodder to see if they advance. Nice Movement on them.<br />
<br />
Has anyone been playing them?<br />
<br />
Any tips or thoughts welcome.Bullcher Febhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00013163135492797119noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1410672305445133553.post-45478038992923272282017-08-22T03:43:00.000-07:002017-08-22T03:43:16.764-07:00Bringing the table to lifeI have managed to get the board up and running. I was keen to see the new battle mat (urban ruins from deep cut studios) with some terrain in place. I had a good go through the garage and I actually have very little terrain, something to sort out in the near future I feel. However ....<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Building</td></tr>

<div>
This building has been the centre piece for many of our games. It is good because it significantly breaks line of sight and it has firing platforms at height making it a good location to place some heavy weapons.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have realised that despite playing Orgs for many many years I have never made any Ork terrain. I will just had to rectify that! I feel a new project coming on. Two or three Ork pieces would give our games a very different feel.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway the battle mat looks good and I can't wait to get a game on it.<br /><div>

My first board was a painted sheet of hardboard and the dice bounced around on it with a loud clipped sound. After a short time I invested in a length of green baize which was a big improvement as this softened and quietened the dice rolling. This has been my playing surface for all that time. It is nearing the end of its life really.<br />
<br />
I have had my eye on the 'mouse mat' type material. I really like the feel of it. No creases, rolls up neatly for storage and feels so good.<br />
<br />
My most recent visit to Awdry Towers inspired me. The <a href="https://bullcher44.blogspot.co.uk/2017/08/a-trip-back-in-time.html" target="_blank">Congo board set-up</a> was just spectacular and was completed by the swamp playing mat. I just couldn't resist anymore and paid <a href="http://www.deepcutstudio.com/product/wargames-terrain-mat-urban-ruins/" target="_blank">Deep Cut Studios</a> a visit. They have a good range, worth a look see. I really liked the look of the Urban Ruins mat and so I parted with some money. Excitement levels high!<br />

It was a completely immersive experience. Never has so much work gone into the preparation for a days gaming. The board, the models, the ideas it was simply amazing!! We were playing something completely new and as such we brought no models or dice or anything, just turn up and play. The game - CONGO - and it was a blast.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5_Ogp4uYoRU/WYbeSkntiOI/AAAAAAAADJg/9hDxxlni11cybtdXMZRzhwcDz28XM2CtQCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_1224.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5_Ogp4uYoRU/WYbeSkntiOI/AAAAAAAADJg/9hDxxlni11cybtdXMZRzhwcDz28XM2CtQCK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_1224.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Game</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
First off it is worth taking a look at Michaels <a href="http://28mmvictorianwarfare.blogspot.co.uk/2017/07/pygmies.html" target="_blank">blog</a> to really get a look at the models we were using. They are simply stunning! This was complemented by amazing and bespoke terrain features and all played out on a neoprene battle mat of jungle design. Stunning. Just look at the skull rock below. There are vines and pots and dead bodies and.... The bits box at Awdry Towers is exceptional.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O2NVamiV1rg/WYbgE6Vrj-I/AAAAAAAADJs/jYf1DuIHsbo_ZQGwE9HBud9NkVv_Q5GvQCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_1229.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O2NVamiV1rg/WYbgE6Vrj-I/AAAAAAAADJs/jYf1DuIHsbo_ZQGwE9HBud9NkVv_Q5GvQCK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_1229.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Terrain features</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The central idea is that a 'white man' caravan is trudging through the jungle exploring as they go. They come across a giant ape and want to capture it. The natives have other ideas and set about the new comers.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0o6Ty7xROH0/WYbghEkBdSI/AAAAAAAADJ0/9RAim0VufvQVZDzyW0tdFMxyRXOnE5ZNACK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_1222.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0o6Ty7xROH0/WYbghEkBdSI/AAAAAAAADJ0/9RAim0VufvQVZDzyW0tdFMxyRXOnE5ZNACK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_1222.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Stunning detail</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The models made the whole experience truly believable. I mean the chap above looks like he could walk across the table on his own.<br />
<div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hnDoa3C_efU/WYbgtU_W8xI/AAAAAAAADJ8/yuz5gZVAEGM5NrDsj9duDEjlZ0l5hZcWACK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_1217.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hnDoa3C_efU/WYbgtU_W8xI/AAAAAAAADJ8/yuz5gZVAEGM5NrDsj9duDEjlZ0l5hZcWACK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_1217.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The giant ape</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The game mechanics are unique, at least they were for me. There is a combination of tokens, dice and cards. Easy to pick up and like anything it has layers once you get into it. It was a hugely enjoyable day and we got a couple of games in. One of the things I liked about it was when rolling the dice all you needed was 5+ to be successful. The nice thing was that you could use D6, D8 and D10's in combination depending on the the skill of the character. No complicated tables. A really neat dynamic.</div>
<div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iAhflHujUqQ/WYbg4gWjrsI/AAAAAAAADKE/fIdNAql8Y-AzCqfES2oJTpOeH5g-qBKcgCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_1225.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iAhflHujUqQ/WYbg4gWjrsI/AAAAAAAADKE/fIdNAql8Y-AzCqfES2oJTpOeH5g-qBKcgCK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_1225.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ambushed by a spider</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The pieces of terrain could be 'explored'. Basically when you go into the terrain different things could happen. This was cool and brought an 'edge' to the game. Michael had models for all the potential creatures that might be encountered. Really good fun.</div>
<div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NDEkUqLpumc/WYbhKoCt4vI/AAAAAAAADKU/vOZCf1WydIwqk_SO3fPDTcH5XlVeIbDbACK4BGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_1227.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NDEkUqLpumc/WYbhKoCt4vI/AAAAAAAADKU/vOZCf1WydIwqk_SO3fPDTcH5XlVeIbDbACK4BGAYYCw/s320/IMG_1227.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Warthog attacks</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
We also had a handful of cards with different actions. For each round you selected three to play and discarded the others. Then the cards are played in order. This was a good mechanic because it made you think about what you wanted to happen and select the cards that would help you most. The difficult thing was actually making it happen in the game.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Restless natives</td></tr>

I had one of the best days ever when it came to dice rolling. I mean I was on fire!! I played the natives in the first game and pretty soon figured out that it was like playing Orks. So I thought that I would throw myself into it and thrash these funny looking white people. I went on the attack looking to overwhelm and just kept up the onslaught. I got myself into position and pounced. Everyone attacking at the same time. I giggled and taunted my way through the morning making loads and loads of 5+ rolls. At one point 8 5+ saves on D6 in a row! It is the Ork way!! It was amazing and I spanked the opposition and crowed my way through lunch, as you do.<br />

A trip to the bits box got the juices going and I give you Gobbo the artist.</i><br />
<br />
After the recent battle some of the Da Boyz returned to scene to pick over the remains. They luckily came across some unused bombz.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Da Bombz</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
With no Trukk Da Boyz decided to hide the bomb and hastily threw a shelter together that would hide the loot.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Da Hideout</td></tr>

Da bombz were quickly tucked away.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Hidden Stash</td></tr>

At this point Gobbo the grot came ambling up and so he was left in charge of the bombz until Da Boyz could find some transport.<br />
<br />
No-one mentioned that this was a hide away. Gobbo thought it would be a good idea to make the place easy to find and so....<br />

I have decided that there is no point comparing it to previous editions. It is a new game with new rules and making backward looking comparisons is just a waste of time. Like any new game it takes a while to settle into its routine and once the basics have become natural you can begin to have fun with the combinations made possible by the new playing mechanics.<br />
<br />
Last night we played our second game of 8th edition. This time we played battle forged armies and set the limit at 1000points. We used the command points for the first time and rolled on the table for mission and deployment style. My Orks v's the Dark Templar Marine salamanders. We played on a 4X4 table.<br />
<br />
I kept my play style very simple and went with the 'green tide' Ork style. I just wanted to 'feel my way' into the game. We were strict with ourselves and followed the phasing very deliberately. This went really well and gave us structure.<br />
<br />

I had 100 models on the table to the Dark Templars 24. He was intimidated for sure. I didn't take Ghazghkull nor did I take any Warbosses. I wanted to save them for another day. I did take a Painboy, Boss Zagstruck, Nob with Warbanner and my leader for the night a Weirdboy. I didn't take Da Jump again something for the future I took the more conservative Warpath instead. I just wanted to see how the boyz would do.<br />
<br />
I had: -<br />
<br />
30 boyz, nob with PK<br />
30 boyz, nob with PK<br />
15 boyz, nob with PK<br />
20 stormboys, nob with PK<br />
<br />
All this meant I did not have to remember lots of different Ork rules. I could settle into the game ruleset. This gave me a battalion detachment and 3 command points on top of the 3 you have as standard. I could have easily tweaked the list to also have a second battalion but again I kept it basic for this game.<br />
<br />

I set the boyz up with a declined flank so leaving the left side clear.<br />
<br />
The marines set-up in the middle of the board opposite. We alternated one squad at a time.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Marines set-up</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The Dread was separated off to the left. This was done deliberately to take away landing areas from my Stormboyz. Good move DT.<br />
<br />
I had the first turn and I advanced the green tide. The first thing to note here is that characters move separately and as such have to be rolled for separately so there can be some disconnect. This can be a problem if the boyz get away in front because you really want the buffs from the characters. I will need to think about this for the future. I think that greater care is needed in the set-up to make this unlikely. I had the characters behind the boyz, and the boyz were keen.<br />
<br />
I went for it and brought in the Stormboyz on the left hand side 'declined' flank.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s0d8O0g2Av8/WYHdLOc96gI/AAAAAAAADIE/YO7yLyFQBAgbn9hCLgLqRsqTH-160a23ACK4BGAYYCw/s1600/Stormboyz%2Barrive.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s0d8O0g2Av8/WYHdLOc96gI/AAAAAAAADIE/YO7yLyFQBAgbn9hCLgLqRsqTH-160a23ACK4BGAYYCw/s320/Stormboyz%2Barrive.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Stormboyz arrive</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
What a sweet sight. I advanced them and lost a couple guys doing that but this improved my charge chances. The charge was successful and I was in. I went for the 'first blood' victory point and completely destroyed the 6 man veteran squad before spreading out to entangle the other troops.<br />
<br />
It felt great!<br />
<br />
However there are lessons to learn. The Boss is not part of the squad and has to be rolled for separately. I had him attack a different target, the Razorback. This was a mistake and I nearly lost him. In future I would declare the charge against two units and this would give him protection. I would also put him against troops.<br />
<br />
I also note that everyone gets an extra attack if there are more than 20 models so in future I will always take a larger unit that can afford to lose a few guys and still retain this advantage. Probably take the full 30.<br />
<br />
Positioning before and after the 3" secondary move is really essential so that everyone gets tied up. I am going to have to really think about this. I was lucky in that I did tie up all the units but I very nearly didn't succeed in this aim.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Stormboyz in action</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Had the Boss gone against the marines and had I got 20 additional attacks because the squad was the right size I could have been much more devastating. I declared all the boyz against the six man squad and could have killed 12 marines with the result, a waste. I should have split the attacks and taken the additional overwatch. There are real lessons to learn here.<br />
<br />
I could support this chaos with some Kommando's or indeed some fast attack buggies or ..... there are options and many of them to consider but it would to great to feel some more help arriving before the boyz finally make it.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The boyz arrive</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
And make it they did! They were buffed by the Warbanner and the Weirdboy's Warpath giving +1 attack and +1 to hit. I didn't get them all into the action I would guess at least 10 - 15 had no attacks and this was just a big mistake. They get 2 attacks normal ,+1 for the choppa, +1 for Warpath, that's four and the PK was in the wrong place - idiot - and both the nob with Warbanner and the Wierdboy had fallen behind and could'n't charge and the Painboy had been mugged because of the same problem. Just silly stuff. But missing out on 40 attacks and not getting the characters in was crazy. Note to self - learn from this experience.<br />
<br />
Anyway - I missed the opportunity to smash all before me. Too many errors in both set-up and tactics. The marines held on and in the end the only two people left on the field were both the marine characters.<br />
<br />
I was delighted for the Dark Templar. He fought stoutly and just inched his way into the winning position. It was a great night and the game is definitely fun to play. Congrats to the DT and my Wierdboy will be getting a yellow streak on his cloak to remember his actions on this night ;-)<br />

The latest Ork innovation had been a tremendous success. Oh yes, the Usain Bolt's of the Gretchin world had been let loose and they had given the Squig's a run for their money. A new breed of Kamikaze Grot was now a major part of the Loota's arsenal.</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
In our latest game I was found wanting as I only have two Squig models. I love them both but I needed six. As a temporary measure, I swapped in four gretchin models and I was good to go. The Dark Templar thought this was good fun and suggested - "That can be your next project, Kamokaze Grot's". A fabulous idea and as soon as the game was over I scurried off to the 'Bitz' box to see what I could unearth. I am seldom disappointed by the famous 'Bitz' box.<br />
<br />
I identified suitable gretchin models and went in search of some big old bombs to strap on their backs. It wasn't long before I was gluing stuff together and giggling as the assembly took shape. I do love this hobby.<br />
<br />
So after much work and merriment I can now present my first four Kamokaze Grot's! They are coming along nicely and bring a huge smile to the face.<br />

The Dark Templar brought his infamous <a href="http://the-dark-templar.blogspot.co.uk/2017/07/40k-8th-edition-intro-game.html" target="_blank">Dark Templar marines</a> to the table and I dusted off my trusty Orks. He has been building this army for as long as I have known him.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My Orks</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I brought 30 Boyz, 30 Stormboyz, 15 Lootas in a Battlewagon along with a Warboss. Nothing complicated so that we could get a feel for the game.<br />
<br />
It wasn't long before I was using my chopper like a can opener on those lovely shiny marines.<br />

To be fair we were just messing around. This is not the 40k we are used to at all! We were learning the new rules and unlearning everything we thought we knew and still making tonnes of errors. Our dice rolling was also shockingly poor, I mean seriously!<br />
<br />
It was good fun but it did feel odd.<br />

I do like a big bit of kit on the table and for whatever reason I seem to have a lot of good luck using them in game especially the Deff Dread.<br />
<br />
However a particular option for the Battlewagon has caught my eye and it feels like a proper Ork addition to a vehicle - the Deff Rolla!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vCUOmfPCxR0/WVTbIxck7yI/AAAAAAAADGM/gf7TazNlxZAzBDf9FFokyBpOkYILIy4pQCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/Unknown-4.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vCUOmfPCxR0/WVTbIxck7yI/AAAAAAAADGM/gf7TazNlxZAzBDf9FFokyBpOkYILIy4pQCK4BGAYYCw/s400/Unknown-4.jpeg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Deff Rolla</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
In the 8th Edition the Battlewagon has a WS and can therefore get stuck into Melee. Now there is a big change! So what can it do?<br />
<br />
It has a WS of 5+ so a bit crap, it will need to roll 5 or above to hit. On the up side it has a S8 and 6 attacks. All in all, not great. Until you read the Deff Rolla rules. It has the Strength of the User, in this case 8, AP-2 and you add 3 to the hit rolls.....what?!<br />
<br />
So now you get 6 attacks, hitting on a 2+ with a Strength of 8 so that it is double most infantry Toughness meaning 2+ to wound and AP-2 significantly reduces the armour save. Even against marines that is some serious damage. 6 Attacks needing 2+ to Hit, 2+ to Wound and armour save of 5+.<br />
<br />
I think I need to get me one of these beauties! Bitz Box here I come.Bullcher Febhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00013163135492797119noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1410672305445133553.post-19990089454267905652017-06-27T05:57:00.002-07:002017-06-27T05:57:27.297-07:008th Edition TankbustasAs those that know me will testify, I just love the Tankbastas. I love the very idea of them. They want to go out there and maul vehicles. It is so understandable and just so Orky! They have rokkits and rokkit pistols and tank hammers and bombs of every sort and of course my real favourite Squig bombs!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3VRsL4Ia7uw/WVJLYHd30WI/AAAAAAAADFw/uYf3UeYRLiIVX8pltxwlAx30dAVocb1tgCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/Unknown-2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3VRsL4Ia7uw/WVJLYHd30WI/AAAAAAAADFw/uYf3UeYRLiIVX8pltxwlAx30dAVocb1tgCK4BGAYYCw/s400/Unknown-2.jpeg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Best!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
There can be 15 boyz in the unit and you can add 2 squig bombs for every 5 boyz. The boyz are all armed with S8 Rokkit Launchas. They can swap in close combat stuff but I prefer to attack from distance. As usual the downside here is the BS of 5 meaning you need 5+ to hit. So that is an average of 5 hits per turn for the 15 boyz probably needing 3+ to wound but....<br />
<br />
Each squig bomb, and there are six, has a BS of 2 and a range of 18". They are single use as explode with the bomb. They have S8, AP-2 and D6 damage. Now that is pretty cool indeed and their deaths are ignored for the purposes of morale.<br />
<br />
If we close the distance to the target the boyz can use Tankbusta Bombs with R6", Grenade D3, S8, AP-2 and D D6. Not bad for Orks and the D3 grenade is a big help to increase the volume of hits as is the D6 damage, especially against multi wound vehicles.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EtHXMW8gp2U/WVJOETvw-rI/AAAAAAAADF8/Bpt44u2KtnYBxoj_MZ3U5Nrci4CGFgwQwCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/Unknown-3.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EtHXMW8gp2U/WVJOETvw-rI/AAAAAAAADF8/Bpt44u2KtnYBxoj_MZ3U5Nrci4CGFgwQwCK4BGAYYCw/s400/Unknown-3.jpeg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Da Boyz</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The unit also benefits from 'Ere we go (re-roll failed charge rolls) and Mob Rule (use the leadership characteristic of any unit within 6")<br />
<br />
The thing that really sets them apart though is the <b>Tank Hunters</b> rule. This means that they can re-roll failed hit rolls when attacking vehicles. Oh yes indeedy folks. This really gives them an edge. In effect it doubles the number of hits achievable.<br />
<br />
And for the Squigs .... they hit on a 2+ with a re-roll. In my book that is six guaranteed hits then. For shooting this is as good as it gets!<br />
<br />
Now just imagine that there is a particular vehicle that you really want to take out. Weirdboy use Da Jump to move the Tankbustas within 9". Deploy the Bomb Squigs and throw the Tank Busta bombs. So what are we talking as averages against a T7 vehicle?<br />
<br />
Bomb Squigs - 6 hits needing 3+ to wound so that is 4 wounds D6 should make it 12 and AP-2 should mean only a 6 will save so with 2 saves that is 10 wounds.<br />
<br />
Tankbusta bombs - 5 hits, re-roll the 10 miss's another 3 hits, thats 8, D3 grenade should make it 16 hits needing 3+ to wound call that 10 wounds, D6 should make it 30 and AP-2 should mean only a 6 will save so with 5 saves that is 25 wounds.<br />
<br />
In summary - No more vehicle - it is merely a pile of smoking metal with some very happy Tankbusta Boyz standing nearby taking selfies.<br />
<br />

1) 48" range. You can stand outside the range of most opposing units and still be effective. This is an important advantage.<br />
<br />
2) Heavy, D3. You roll one dice and apply the outcome to the entire unit. So you will have either 15 shots, 30 shots or 45 shots. Volume baby. Likely 33% hit so 5, 10 or 15 hits. Lady luck will have play her part. Heavy makes the unit static so consideration can be given to put the unit in a transport for added mobility and protection. Likely a Battle Wagon to optimise the number of troops in the unit.<br />
<br />
3) S7 so when to hit you are likely to be doing damage. Probably wounding on 3+, 66%.<br />
<br />
4) D2 so that is doubling the damage if the target has multiple wounds.<br />
<br />
5)AP-1 reduces the armour save by one.<br />
<br />
That is some tasty output.<br />
<br />
Up to 3 Loota's can be replaced with Spanner's. Spanners come with the Mekaniak special rule that allows them to repair a vehicle would once per turn. So it might be worth swapping out one of the Lootas for a Spanner. Bearing in mind that we want these guys operating from distance consideration could be given to arming him with a Souped-up-weapon. Maybe a Kustom Mega Blasta with R24", Assault 1, S8, AP-3, D D3. I think I would likely stick with the Loota's myself.<br />
<br />
I think it is safe to say that many an Ork general will be including some Lootas.Bullcher Febhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00013163135492797119noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1410672305445133553.post-66654287820657163372017-06-22T08:06:00.001-07:002017-06-23T03:06:36.455-07:00Da Boyz are back in town - WAAAAAAGH!This blog started as a Waaaaagh so this brings us full circle.<br />
<br />
It had to happen, the 8th edition has been published and I have been to get my copy. So what does it mean for the green skins? It's all change in the 40k world but is it a good thing? 7th edition was a disaster for Orks. They were pretty unplayable. These are my first thoughts on the new rules.<br />
<br />
My beloved <a href="http://bullcher44.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/the-gathering-is-pace-boyz.html" target="_blank">'Ard Boyz</a> are gone. They have been a mainstay for years and, if I am reading the codex right, they the are gone. RIP. They were the first thing I went looking for. Downhearted, I flicked on through the pages. Things got better, much better.....<br />

<b>STATS</b><br />
First up, Da Boyz are now S4 and I like it.<br />
<br />
<b>FEARLESS</b><br />
The Mob Rule ability means that the units can use the number of models in the unit instead Leadership for morale. The allowable unit size is up to 30 so this is encouraging the Green Tide. We can be Fearless again. Superb!<br />
<br />
Note all template weapons are gone from the game so no need for all that spacing out Da Boyz to maximise the 2" allowable gap. Much better for the green skins and for playing generally.<br />
<br />
<b>MOVEMENT</b><br />
Move is reduced to 5", boo hiss. There is now an Advance option where the unit can move forward a further D6". Charge is a 2D6 test and the 'Ere We Go ability allows this to be re-rolled. There is a 3" Piling In allowance and a Heroic Intervention allowance of 3" for Characters.<br />
<br />
So basically move 5", Advance D6 say 3" (8" total), Charge 2D6, with re-rolls, should be 8" (16" total), to Move within 1" of the enemy (17" total) then everything else comes Piling In and uses Heroic Intervention for characters. Yip - that is potentially a good long way!<br />
<br />
Disembarking vehicles has to be done before the vehicle moves. So no more racing Da Boyz forward in Trukks and jumping out for some choppa fun. Alternatives need to be found.<br />
<br />
Wierdboyz can now choose their Power of Waaagh discipline. Da Jump is a real possibility as a unit can be moved to within 9" of the enemy.<br />
<br />
Stormboyz are interesting too. They have a 12" move. They can Advance and Charge the same turn (with some downside but ...). They also have 'Ere we Go and Mob Rule. Upto 30 in a unit. Gosh. So using 12" instead of 5" above thats 24" total. Potential to be in combat during the first turn.<br />
<br />
Kommandos can sneak in behind the enemy. He, he. I have used this to my advantage before.<br />
<br />
When it is all done units can Consolidate a further 3" towards the enemy.<br />
<br />
<b>FIGHTING</b><br />
I have been having a look through the latest fight rules the first thing that strikes is that Initiative is gone so Da Boyz can hit first when they charge. A proper first for Orks. Yipee!<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Waaagh</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Overwatch is still a pain, but such is life.<br />
<br />
And so to dice......Da Boyz get 2 attacks, plus an attack for using a Choppa (3A's), plus an attack for Green Tide (being more than 20 models in the unit) (4A's), A Wierdboy with Warpath plus another attack (5A's), add Ghazghkull Thraka with his Great Waagh so Da Boyz can Advance and Charge in the same turn and you also get plus one attack for every model in the unit (6A's). I am making that 180 attacks plus the extra ones for Nobs and Boss's etc. Throw in a Waagh Banner and you get plus one to the hit rolls. I mean seriously! (not sure how this will work out points wise but even the thought of it.....)<br />
<br />
I think I am going need some more dice and a bloody big bucket to throw them :-)<br />
<br />
I am also going to need more models and I just never thought that would be the case with all the Orks currently in my possession.<br />
<br />
